Christina Deering: Building a Business That Fits Your Life

Is your business supporting the life you wanted, or keeping you too busy to live it? Christina Deering joins Jet Bunditwong on The Personal Side of Business for a conversation about the personal reasons behind our business decisions.
From marketing to work with meaning
Christina says she studied marketing and spent 15 years at an agency building brands. Over time, she began to feel like a number and questioned what she wanted her work to contribute. She wanted to help people build businesses that made a difference in other people’s lives.
That question led her toward coaching and the work she describes as being a business intuitive. She also recognized the cost of following someone else’s template: even when a model looked successful, it could leave her building a business she did not want to show up for.
What loss changed
Christina describes loss as a turning point in her relationship with spirituality and purpose. Jet shares how his own experiences changed the way he thought about work and time with those he loved. Their discussion returns to a simple reality: the person running the business does not stop having a personal life when the workday begins.
In the closing conversation, Christina speaks candidly about pregnancy loss, motherhood, and telling her husband when she needed help. Her account is a personal experience, not a prescription for how anyone else should grieve.

Five lessons to take into your week
- Check direction before speed. A packed calendar can conceal a mismatch between your daily work and the life you want.
- Question the list. Christina suggests looking at draining tasks and asking whether they can be removed, delegated, or approached differently.
- Teach before handing off. Document a process, train another person, and review their first attempts. Delegation becomes more concrete when expectations are clear.
- Ask why again. Her five-layers-of-why exercise moves beneath a revenue or growth goal to the personal reasons behind it: family, connection, presence, and joy.
- Keep your own priorities in view. A mentor’s approach can offer useful ideas without becoming the exact blueprint for your business.
Questions for your business
- Which commitment on your calendar still serves the reason you started?
- What task could you teach someone else this week?
- What does success need to include outside work?
- Who can you be honest with when you need support?
